Consider:

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

And then consider:

Mark 3:22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Mark 3:23 And he called them [unto him], and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
Mark 3:24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

Jesus said "How can Satan cast out Satan?" Then in Matthew 7:22, how can those people cast out devils in the name of Jesus and still be "workers of iniquity" ? If casting out devils in the name of Jesus is a good thing then how can both good and evil be served at the same time and if casting out devils in the name of Jesus is not a good thing, then how can Satan cast out Satan?

James 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet [water] and bitter?
James 3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so [can] no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
I think it is probably best to understand this as a deception of Satan.

In football we have a play called the screen pass. What happens is the offensive line will pretend to block the defense, but will let them by so they will chase the quarter back. They will pursue the deception seeking a victory, but one or two line men will move out in front of the back the ball will be passed to. When the fooled Defense almost gets the quarter back he throws the ball to a wide open back with two blockers. The deception is played out.

The above illustration was meant to show that the deception of victory can lead to a false security.
I'm not into football very much, so, are you saying that when the "workers of Iniquity" cast out devils, the devils only pretended to be cast out but really were not and the "wonderful works" were not really wonderful works but just deceptions of the Evil One?
given,

The word says He spoke to them in parables. I don't think the Lord was saying Satan could not cast out Satan...He was asking them HOW....since those learned scribes seemed so knowledgeable on how Satan works.
He was confounding them, showing them how ignorant they were of spiritual things.

Maybe.
