Worldwide Church of God

Founder

Founded by Herbert W. Armstrong (died 1986). Founded in 1934 in Oregon. There are splinter groups. Main headquarters in Pasadena, California.

Writings

Monthly magazine, Plain Truth. TV program, The World Tomorrow. Assorted booklets, and the Bible.

Who is God?

One infinite, eternal God. Traditional Armstrongism denied a trinity, defining God as a “family of individuals.” Recently WWCG leaders have accepted a generally Trinitarian concept of God.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is God incarnate (in human form). Armstrong suggested that Jesus would return to earth in 1975, but many church leaders today no longer support this teaching. Recent doctrinal changes include the belief that Jesus was raised from the dead spiritually and physically. However, some people still follow traditional Armstrong beliefs.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

Beliefs about the Holy Spirit are also changing. Now view the Holy Spirit as personal rather than impersonal.

How to be saved.

Salvation is by grace (the unmerited favor of God). However, members ought to recognize Old Testament sabbath days, feast days, and dietary prohibitions, such as no pork or shellfish

What happens after death?

Resurrected believers will live on the new earth. Unsaved will face judgment.

Other beliefs or practices.

According to researchers, this group, which in 1986 was very cultic, has undergone many changes. Church doctrines may change widely in coming years, but at least some beliefs are headed toward more biblical views. Former Armstrong concepts (no medical treatment, deity for mankind, Anglo-Israelism,) largely have been abandoned.
Keep it up Dave. This is good stuff.
Fortunately the reasurch for this has already been done for me. I'm just typing it out. I have several others ready to post and quite a few that I haven't gotten typed up yet. I have been thinking about possibly posting some of this in the mods section at BF. I'd post it on Religon board but don't really wish to get involved in a big debate but think some of the staff there might be interested.
Good idea Dave...
